Unfamiliar Comics

Hey, I’m DJ Combow. Back in highschool I wrote, hosted, and drew a sprite comic known as Sprites ForeShadow(ed). Over the years I’ve wanted to start another webcomic but life, work, and school all got in the way. Recently I decided that none of those things were as important as I thought, doing what you’re good at and what makes you happy is what’s important.

Over the past several years I’ve wrote several plots and outlines of comic/novel ideas but never pushed forward enough to accomplish them.

Originally, Unfamiliar Comics was going to be Unfamiliar Games, and The Renegade Mermaid was going to be a point-and-click style 3d game. But, unfortunately, video game creation takes huge amounts of work and a team working around the clock. Luckily, I kept all the designs, concepts, and scripts and worked on a way to transform that into an ongoing serious.

My goal is to take The Renegade Mermaid into a psuedo physical/web publication. It will be divided into 22-24 page “chapters” which translates into the traditional print comic issue that I will then be able to sell as singles and volumes. Of course, Renegade Mermaid will always be available for free here!

The Renegade Mermaid is not the only story I want to be told, and hopefully if I am able to gain the forward momentum I’m looking for I can get a team of like-minded writers and artists to turn Unfamiliar Comics into a “real” indie comic company!
